On tour, you’re likely to pick up gifts and strange things from fans along the way. Some will give you a graffiti piece they made with your name and some will give you a picture that they drew of you. Reef showed you in the latest Pterovision that some fans give you weed. Sometimes fans have your name tatted on them. In Paris, this guy pictured below gave me a personalized 3xl t-shirt that said “I’m White, So What” on the front, with “Esoteric” printed on the back. Not cool. He says he gives it to all the white rappers that come to Paris. Now its always an honor for a fan to give you something, but this one caught me a little off-guard. Within seconds of getting handed the shirt I found myself posing for a picture with him. I was stunned and confused at this point but I managed to flip the shirt to hide the “white” part. The language barrier was in full effect here, so I couldn’t really philosophize or talk race relations with the kid. Here’s the pic:

AWKWARD
For the record, I’d never wear a shirt that said “I’m White So What.” A few guys trying to figure out the fan’s angle asked me if that was one of my lyrics and I quickly told them no. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever even mentioned that I was white in a single song ever. That said, the time is long overdue that white rappers drop the whole “white” thing. Some people know this, but it needs to be reiterated: nobody is surprised by a white rapper anymore. Nothing shocking or original guys. Let it go and just be an emcee. Not a white emcee, just an emcee. Oh, I’m sure you have seen this:

These guys got some new hot gear dropping for 2010! You might have seen me in some bubble jackets, flannels, or ridiculous winter hats over the past few months…they looked out for me, so I’m looking out for them! They’re originally Massachusetts-based, they make dope stuff, AND they support WSPA’s “Libearty” campaign (committed to the protection of bears worldwide) each year. That’s something I can stand behind.
