middle_east_akroMake sure you come out and support my man Akrobatik on June 11th at the Middle East in Cambridge. We’ve enlisted the Army of the Pharaohs to rock that night and we’re doing a bunch of joints together (I’ll even be rocking with Virtuoso for the first time in over a decade doing our early stuff from the late 90’s). This will be a good time for new and old hip-hop heads, and 100% of the proceeds go to the recovery of our good friend Akro, who suffered a heart attack and is currently on the comeback trail. This all happens on a Saturday night, so no excuses!

Thanks to everybody that came out to support Sounds for Hounds! We raised over $2,500 for the dogs and I’m so proud of the people that understood it was a benefit and donated their hard-earned money to the cause. Old school heads were there, new friends were in the spot, basically just about everybody in Boston that’s important to me. Heads from NY, CT, and RI came out as well….road trips! Organizing the event was actually a fun thing to do, and promoting it reminded me of back in the day when I’d run all around Greater Boston sticking 7LES flyers to anything but a cop car. Seeing the results of this really paid off. Shouts to Marty Caballero for a great story in the Boston Herald, and shouts to the Phoenix, Globe, and the Dig for shining a light on the event as well. Bringing the rock world together with the hip-hop world can be dangerous, but I think the talent last night spoke for itself. Rock and rap for dogs and cats. Nothing was typical, everything stood out - from Black El & Durkin’s set to Moe Pope with Quills, to Dirty Dishes and Viva Viva’s set. Keyboards, MPCs, drums, bass, turntables, all that good stuff. Everything was brave and bold, and I’m happy about the line-up and really appreciate them all taking the time to rock last night. Nobody “mailed it in” and that’s something I’m thrilled about. Clothing company Annie Mulz came through with some great exclusive Sounds for Hounds t-shirts for the cause as well, and I saw several slung over people’s shoulders so all in all, it meant the world to me for people to come out and support in the name of man’s best friend. I want to shout-out the famous 501st, the official Star Wars costuming organization that came out to kick off our set. As a life-long Star Wars fanatic, having the guys that are co-signed by George Lucas himself in the spot really made my night. Backstage I couldn’t shut up with the Star Wars lines and quite honestly, I think Boba Fett had enough of me. DJ Beyonder of the Bladerunners kept things interesting from 8-1 on the turntables (like a true DJ does), he made some off-color remarks (like a true hypeman does) and I’m really thankful he was working for the cause all night. 7L put up with my crap, did his thing on the wheels of steel…cutting over everything…from 90 bpm to 130 bpm and kept our set on point! I want to thank the MSPCA-Angell staff, the Brick Records posse, the guys from Jumptheturnstyle.com, and definitely my man Tom O’Melia, Jr….he rallied for some extra donations from the good folks at Cask N Flagon, they’re really good dudes in that spot! Thanks fellas! Make sure you catch all the acts whenever they’re playing, there was some truly amazing stuff going on last night. Here are some shots from the night: x2_5a56734
