LIVE AT THE MIDDLE EAST *UPSTAIRS*

LIVE AT THE MIDDLE EAST *UPSTAIRS*

I wanna thank everybody that came out to the release party in the rain the other night! We ran through a lot of material from Saving Seamus Ryan…we even had Benny Macko (pka Blacastan) shoot me on stage after murking his verse from the album. I dusted myself off and proceeded with “Plotting my Revenge” and carried on. Qwill provided the highlight of the night for me- he came up and murdered the hook for “Hold On” and I think that was good for people to see, since more than one person has told me that they thought the hook was a sample. In hip-hop, that usually means the singer did a good fucking job. Make sure you check him out at www.myspace.com/qwillmusic.  Another big moment for me was when I was delivering the line ”Mum I’ma have a son, name him after Xavier McDaniel, cuz he played like an animal” and the left side of the stage said it louder than I did. Man, that was a good feeling, I wish Xavier was old enough to be there to hear that! I also wish Logan was human enough to be there and hear “Back to the Lab.” This was our second time performing it and I think you could tell that we really had fun doing it live. Beyonder seems to know the lyrics now too! In Providence he ran and hid when that one came on. I was trying to figure out whether it was the fact he didn’t know the rhymes or the fact that he couldn’t take himself seriously being a hypeman for a song about a dog. 7L cut the Rakim phrase up lovely. Side-note: I had 7L lay those cuts down before I even told him what the song was about. I actually told him I wanted to “make a track about making tracks”…thankfully he didn’t even question it. After doing a bit of the SSR stuff, we delved into some older material ranging from “Rise of the Rebel,” “Rogue Nation” and “Mic Mastery,” to “The Most” and “Play Dumb.” Oh and, for the record, any kid I see in the Logan shirt has me at their disposal for whatever. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it…if you are going to wear MY dog on YOUR chest, then you have helped to make my life a better one and I owe you for that. I did see one kid with it on the other night, and I didn’t get to thank him…but I did see it. Apathy, Will C, and Blacastan all did their thing on their sets…pick up their newest material: Apathy’s Get Busy Committee cd with Ryu, Will C’s Evil in the Mirror and Blacastan’s Master Builder Mix cd. Google is your friend!

Yo Providence was a good time Friday night! We ran through several songs from SSR and some joints from the back catalog that we haven’t performed in years or ever even. Blacastan aka Benny Macko tore it down along with Will C and Raheem Jamal of Project Move fame….everybody repped hard. Will and Raheem should make an album together, their live show is insane! You’ll be able to check it out again at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge this Wednesday as 7l, Beyonder, Apathy, Will C, Raheem, and Blacastan get together to tear the stage up for the Saving Seamus Ryan record release party. There will be a few special guests and we’ll have the limited edition 7LES fitted caps available. The event is sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon so take advantage of freebies from them and don’t be afraid to show up in costume! Peace!
